This is a great piece on Salon.com, I am glad that some in the MSM are starting to see that Bush is a failure…
Warning? What warning?
We made a little joke the other day. George W. Bush was in Crawford, Texas, in August 2001 when he got that presidential daily briefing that said, “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.” He went fishing. So we wondered the other day whether the president had gotten another PDB when he was down in Crawford this August — one that said, “Hurricane Katrina Determined to Strike in U.S.”
Metaphorically speaking, it turns out, Bush did get such a PDB — and he got it years ago. Experts have warned for years that New Orleans is particularly vulnerable to hurricane damage. And as the folks at the Center for American Progress note, the Federal Emergency Management Agency issued a report in early 2001 that identified the three catastrophes most likely to hit the United States: a terrorist attack on New York, an earthquake in San Francisco and a hurricane in New Orleans.
As of this week, FEMA is now two-for-three. That leads us to think that the residents of the city by the Bay might think about scoring some flashlights and bottled water just about now. But it also leads us to wonder what the Bush administration and the Republican-controlled Congress did with the warning that FEMA provided.
Here’s what: They cut funding for flood and hurricane projects planned by the New Orleans district of the Army Corps of Engineers. According to one published report, the New Orleans district had $147 million to spend on such projects in 2001. In fiscal year 2005, which ends next month, the district will have had about $82 million, a drop of about 44 percent. As we reported earlier this week, the Bush administration proposed further cuts for the district for fiscal year 2006.
Go and read the whole thing, you are going to have to watch a little ad before you do, but it is not to bad.

I was doing some surfing around, and I ran across this on Eve’s Apple, nice blog, new but nice.
She gets this email…

atellite picture of Hurricane Katrina at NOAA.com looks like a 6-week unborn human child as it comes ashore the Gulf Coast, vicinity states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida at 12:32 PM, Monday, August 29, 2005
Hurricane “Katrina” (reportedly means “Pure” in Russian) - satellite image - Monday, 29 Aug 05, 12:32 PM (EDT) - coming ashore Gulf Coast - satellite image looks like 6-week fetus
check out NOAA website: www.noaa.gov/
The image of the hurricane above with its eye already ashore at 12:32 PM Monday, August 29 looks like a fetus (unborn human baby) facing to the left (west) in the womb, in the early weeks of gestation (approx. 6 weeks). Even the orange color of the image is reminiscent of a commonly used pro-life picture of early prenatal development (see sign with picture of 8-week pre-born human child below). In this picture, and in another picture in today’s on-line edition of USA Today*, this hurricane looks like an unborn human child.
Louisiana has 10 child-murder-by-abortion centers - FIVE are in New Orleans

Baby-murder state # 1 - California (125 abortion centers) - land of earthquakes, forest fires, and mudslides
Baby-murder state # 2 - New York (78 abortion centers) - 9-11 Ground Zero
Baby-murder state # 3 - Florida (73 abortion centers) - Hurricanes Bonnie, Charley, Frances, Ivan, Jeanne in 2004; and now, Hurricane Katrina in 2005
God’s message: REPENT AMERICA !
Is it just me or are these people truly just off thier rocker? Are they also saying that God kills indiscriminately to send a message in a sat image of a storm…

The leadership of George Bush is really showing itself right about now. New Orleans is in chaos, the town is being looted. Police are powerless to stop it because they are out gunned and out numbered. The Mayor of New Orleans is going to try to evacuate a flooded city because the levees that hold back the water have failed, so now another 15 feet of water is rushing into the city.
From the AP
“It’s downtown Baghdad,” said tourist Denise Bollinger, who snapped pictures of looting in the French Quarter. “It’s insane.”
The mayor estimated that 80 percent of New Orleans was flooded, while a countless number of residents were still stranded on rooftops.
Hospitals were running out of power and scrambling to find places to take their patients. At one clinic, broken glass littered some areas and patients and staff had fallen on floors slick with floodwaters.
“It’s like being in a Third World country,” said Mitch Handrich, a registered nurse manager at Charity Hospital, where nurses were ventilating patients by hand after the power and then the backup generator failed. Some 300 patients had yet to be evacuated, but the babies in intensive care had been flown out.
“We’re just trying to stay alive,” Handrich said.
So what was Bush doing while this is going on? Well who knows, yesterday he went to a photo-op in Arizona to pimp his Medicare drug plan, meanwhile back in New Orleans helicopters are plucking people off roof tops and people are fishing bodies out of the river.
Today he is going coming to Washington DC so he can

12.7% of the US population lives in poverty, this is the 4th straight increase year in a row. Every year Bush has been president? Hmmmm.
From Reuters.
The U.S. poverty rate rose in 2004, driven by an increase in the number of poor non-Hispanic whites, while the median income for Americans as as a whole remained stable, the government said on Tuesday.
The percentage of the U.S. population living in poverty rose to 12.7 percent from 12.5 percent in 2003, as 1.1 million more people slipped into poverty last year, the Census Bureau said in its annual poverty report.
The ranks of the poor rose to 37.0 million, up from 35.9 million the previous year, the report said.
The poverty rate rose for only one group — non-Hispanic whites — which had an 8.6 percent poverty rate for 2004 compared with 8.2 percent in 2003. The poverty rate declined for Asians and remained unchanged for blacks and Hispanics, the report showed.
The real median household income in 2004 totaled $44,389, flat from 2003 and marking the second consecutive year in which income showed no change.
Under Clinton, it was dropping!

While people in the gulf coast are running for their lives, or leader was on his 5th week of vacation. While oil prices leap over $70 a barrel, he is still on his 5th week of vacation.
But wait! Mr. Bush is going to cut his vacation short so he can rush down to the gulf coast and have his photo taken handing out ice. He is going to throw his last 2 days of vacation into the wind and return to work.
Is it just me or is this nation basically without a leader in the month of August?

This is about the most pathetic thing I have read in a while, this is low, even for the GOP.
While the new channels and the nation was glued to this storm was tearing down the homes of our fellow Americans, the governor of Kentucky calls a news conference and PARDONS all of his friends that are under investigation for breaking the Merit System laws.
Bluegrass Reports has been following this.
Just minutes ago, Governor Ernie Fletcher, in one of the more audacious displays of political grandstanding, in a setting full of cheering and clapping political supporters, announced that he was thumbing his nose at the Kentucky criminal justice system, announced he was issuing “blanket” pardons (calling it amnesty, but Section 77 of the state constitution does not contain the term ‘amnesty’, only ‘pardon’) to anyone who “might have violated” state’s Merit System laws. Yes, he left it that open and vague.
-snip-
Also, while Fletcher says he will not pardon himself and will appear before the grand jury tomorrow as required, he stated that he would not speak. One can only conclude he is intending to invoke the 5th Amendment.
Wow, he knew this would not make the news because of the storm.

I was in Florida in 1992 when Hurricane Andrew tore through south Florida. I can recall that there was a huge mobilization of troops to protect and help those that has lost everything.
Bush Sr. sent 30,000 active duty troops to the Miami area, and the state of Florida activated and sent 6000 of it

I got this from the Swing State Project
From ABC News
JACKSON BARRACKS — When members of the Louisiana National Guard left for Iraq in October, they took a lot equipment with them. Dozens of high water vehicles, humvees, refuelers and generators are now abroad, and in the event of a major natural disaster that, could be a problem.
“The National Guard needs that equipment back home to support the homeland security mission,” said Lt. Colonel Pete Schneider with the LA National Guard.
And the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
In no state have those deaths registered more than in Louisiana. Louisiana, along with New York, has lost more guardsmen and reservists - 23 as of July 24 - than any state in the nation, and all but one of those deaths have come in the last eight months.
Before Bush took office, the NATIONAL guard was to help out with things like the hurricane that is slamming into LA as we speak. Well tough shit, they are in Iraq!
