The modern evangelical Christians that are running amuck in our nation today are great at manufacturing crisis where there is none. Right now, there is a claim that there is a war on Christmas, but I am not sure who they are fighting it with.
As the sun rose this Friday alarms went off in the wee hours of the morning, not to get the kids ready for school, or start the commute to work, but instead to make it to the Wal-Mart or Best Buy to start the

“Christians, not the pagans or the left or the space aliens, have turned Christmas into the pile of corporate dreck it is today.”
I have’t, but thank you for your extreme global/blanket statements that only make you look like an extremist on the other side. ![]()

It is true my friend, Christians have turned xmas into what it is. You may not have, but you have allowed your fellow Christians do it. You did not stop them. Did you do a xmas tree this year? Have you gone shopping for dreck to give someone? Yes or No. If you say Yes, then you did help to distroy xmas.
Take your faith back from the nuts that are holding it hostage! My statement may be blanket, but I am tring to make a point.

Yes, making a point. I can understand that. But make sure that when you make the point, you don’t sound like an extremist.
Christmas for me and my family. We attend Christmas Eve service. Its tradition, and its a time when my church family gets together to worship. We exchange gifts the next day. Christmas day. Before we exchange gifts, we sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. We then exchange gifts as a way of celebrating God’s gift to us through his son, Jesus. There you go. So far, I don’t see how I’m holding Christmas hostage.
Are there ways for the populace of Christianity to lose site of the meaing for the season? Sure! Call it what it is. I’ll do it myself. Many Christians find themselves in the middle of all the cultural “hustle and bustle” and completely forget the meaning that the Christian part of the season was origianlly created around.
Yes! We have a beautiful tree in our house. You know what we call it??? A decoration! Wow! Imagine that. It CAN be that simple. I don’t light a candle in a druid worship practice and force my kids to dance around it in pagan ways…lol This is sometimes laughable. Lights are also on my house. Is there some ancient pagan practice that I’m drawing from that would draw me further away from the love of God, now that I’ve plugged in a brown extension cord to a source of power that somehow makes my house look pretty? I don’t think so. Although, I’m sure someone somewhere will bring something up.
You say that I’ve “helped to destroy the true meaning of Christmas.” I’m not sure you know it. The article you sent me destroyed the day, the name, the traditions….etc. So, what is your definition of the true meaning of Christmas?….and you have to come from my point of view here…I’m a Christian. What’s Christmas to a Christian who worships Christ? Someone who’s not just an average attender, a card carrying member. Someone who’s truly dedicated to Christ and his ways.
Looking forward to your response. Debate his healthy.

I think that you are missing the whole point of the story, This fake “War on Christmas”, in reality, there is no Christmas, the whole thing is pulled out of thin air, and pagan faiths, that is a fact, so how can there be a war on it.
Putting that fact aside for a moment, I look at the holiday that you did create, and look at it now, the Christians have turned it into the buy-fest that it is today.
So the point is, Christian have turned Christmas into the monster it is, and as Americans start to reject the beast, the uber-right (I am not saying you are in that group) scream “War on Christmas”. YOU have allowed Wal-Mart, Sears, and so on hijack it, and Christian have done nothing to stop it.
I was raised MORMON, and SOUTHERN BAP, I went to church 5 times a week for bible stude, never have I seen Christmas in the book. I REJECT what Christmas has become, it is a beast…
I am glad that you are a good Christian, I am glad that you have a tree, my faith thanks you, I am glad you have lights on your house, my faith thanks you, but that does not make you a good Christian, and all of those things move you and your family away from what YOUR prople claim Christmas is, because NONE of those things have to do with Christ.
Be Merry, I will even wish you a Merry Christmas, but my piont is, Christmas as we know it today is because Christian have allowed it to become that, and people are starting to reject it. There is no “War on Christmas” because it is no longer a faith based Holiday, it is a secular buy-fest.
I guess you are not in the loop of the right wing “War on Christmas” agenda, and that is a good thing.

I do think that there are many Christians who battle for the wrong things. I myself personally battle the thoughts between materialism and true worship. Does that destroy Christmas though? But that doesn’t destry…let’s not call it Christmas…lets call it the celebration of Christ’s birth. The only thing that can destroy the celebration of a historical event of a baby who was sought after by roman officials, would be the absolute falsification of that event (not sure if falsification is spelled right).
Christmas (in its most origianal meaning) is celebrated in various ways around the world. To just say that American Christians have destroyed Christmas is short sited. Americans, through capitalism, have added sooooo many things to Christmas and called it tradition. Christians, yes, were probably involved. Non-Christians too. Corporate heads? Yes. Greeting Card board members? Yes. Sure all those things have been added to a birthday celebration. But they themselves are not bad, unless they get in the way of true worship.
Now, as I see it, Christians aren’t the only ones creating, purchasing, cutting trees, putting up lights, etc. There are non-Christians that celebrate this “thing” as well. I call it a worship time, others call it a time to get together as families….but the original intent of Christmas was for the “happy birthday part.” In general…no extreme statements here…true Christians will celebrate it for what it is. No blanket statements will even come close to covering them.
I don’t think that there is a strategic planning committee in some underground cave planning how to undermine Jesus…they couldn’t if they wanted to, but that’s another thing. However, I do think there have been moves by different groups or agencies or individuals who do not like Christmas, or do not like Christians. There have been lawsuits filed that were begun not with the intent of upholding the right of free speech or freedom of religious excerisize, but to change it. I just wrote and received a reply from the chief of the ICLU (Indiana ACLU) agreeing with me on that. But I don’t see the ACLU policing itself against those extreme suits. Political correctness is another issue that drives me nuts. I would guess that it would you as well. Simply saying, “Happy Holidays” while bar scanning a future gift is not offensive to me. A corporate CEO banning the use of the word “Christmas” does get under my collar though. It says to me, and many others, Christmas is offensive. Is that extreme? Maybe. But if no response was given from Christians in general, me or John Gibson (who I both agree with and disagree with on points), we would be lame and gutless. The stores who sell the all the merchandise, the municipalities, the schools who happily put up posters about Hannakah and Kwanza, but don’t put up Christian things because of fear of lawsuits are mislead…and its wrong.
You have to agree here, that someone is providing that fear. Is it right to have a response? Sure. You’ve responded to the capitalism that has weakended the true meaning of Christ’s birth. Christians are simply responding to a growing number of people/organizations/agencies that are saying our name/namesake is offensive.
Thanks for the response. LOL, I’m sure there’s not many “comment pages” that run this long. Also, sorry if this runs abit…they only give you a little box to type in and its hard to scroll back and forth and back and forth….
