Lamont Letter to Lieberman After NIE Report & In Advance of “Major” Iraq Speech

Writing by on Sunday, 24 of September , 2006 at 9:14 pm

Connecticut Democratic Senate nominee Ned Lamont sent the following letter to Sen. Joe Lieberman in advance of Lieberman’s speech tomorrow on Iraq. You can find the letter here, with links to source material, as well as the fact sheet referenced in the letter.

Senator Joseph Lieberman
United States Senate
Washington, D.C.

Dear Senator Lieberman:

As I am sure you have seen, the New York Times today reported that the National Intelligence Estimate in April concludes "that the American invasion and occupation of Iraq has helped spawn a new generation of Islamic radicalism and that the overall terrorist threat has grown since the Sept. 11 attacks." The NIE represents the consensus view of the U.S. government’s 16 major intelligence agencies. The Times notes that the Iraq War is a major "reason for the diffusion of jihad ideology" and cites one intelligence official acknowledging that the NIE "says that the Iraq war has made the overall terrorism problem worse." 1 Let me put this news in terms that you can clearly understand: Our own intelligence agencies now confirm that the Iraq War is undermining America’s security and credibility at our nation’s peril.

With this report being released on the eve of your major address on Iraq, I and thousands of other citizens in Connecticut expect to hear your response to this news in your speech, considering you have echoed President Bush’s claim that the Iraq War has made our country safer, and that staying the course will help keep us safe. As the NIE now shows, that is absolutely not the case - in fact, the Iraq War has and continues to unnecessarily endanger U.S. national security. Never again can a political leader claim otherwise, lest they deliberately ignore the concrete facts presented to us by our intelligence agencies.

Senator Lieberman, I sincerely hope you will provide answers to these questions in your speech, because there are many who feel that Time Magazine was correct when it wrote that when it comes to Iraq, "Either Senator Lieberman is so divorced from reality that he’s completely lost the plot or he knows he’s spinning a line." 2 Clearly, Iraq is the most pressing national issue of our time and like many others, I was perplexed a few weeks ago when you gave a major speech on national security but failed to publicly explain your position on Iraq. As one newspaper editorial said, "Any politician worth his salt should know what he thinks about Iraq, off the top of his head - and he should be willing and able to articulate it." 3 Similarly, thousands of Connecticut citizens are perplexed that you have skipped half of all U.S. Senate votes on the subject, including votes that occurred while you were in Washington, D.C.

At a time of war, our state and our country needs leaders in Congress who are willing to speak frankly with the public and who are willing to fulfill their constitutional obligations to hold the executive branch accountable. Our troops serving in combat and the millions of citizens concerned about this war deserve no less.

Oh there is a lot more, you should go read it…

Did a Bacteria Do what a Bush Could Not? bin Ladin Dead?

Writing by on Saturday, 23 of September , 2006 at 9:47 am

This is going to put a huge damper in the Right-wings “Fear of Terror” Agenda leading up to the November elections. Now that the French has reported that the Saudis believe Osama bin Laden died a month ago of Typhoid in Pakistan, the right-wing neo-cons will need to rush and find a new boogieman to strike fear into its cowardly followers. Do they have enough time to manufacture a new one before November? Also, this blows a huge hole in the "We found Osama" October surprise Karl has planned.

The last month or so Bush has been on his new “Terror Terror Fear” Campaign, hoping that the same tired speech will scare the lemmings to vote at least one more time for the Republican protectors of his illegal acts, but It is not working. The American people are on to him, for the better part of 4 years now Bush and the Republicans that support him have not given two shits about Osama bin Laden, Osama gave Bush, and the Neo-Cons what they wanted, a reason to go into Iraq, and in return Bush gave Osama what he wanted, freedom, a live real-time training camp (Iraq) and the removal of the Air Base we built in Saudi Arabia (Muslim Holy Land), it was a win-win for both the evil bastards.

Here are some quotes from the "President" himself.

"so I don’t know where he is.  You know, I just don’t spend that much time on him" - G.W. Bush (White House), 3/13/02

"I am truly not that concerned about him." - G.W. Bush, repsonding to a question about bin Laden’s whereabouts, 3/13/02 (The New American, 4/8/02)

To my few right-wing readers that I know stalk the pages of this site, looking for a spelling error here or there (I know there are a lot) I say to you, when are you going to wake up and love this nation as much as you love Bush and the Republicans? You allowed a very dumb man exploit your very primal urges to be protected when you are scared, you allowed him to goat you into fear, and offer you the “protection”, the only cost to you would be your rights, and your freedom, and you said, “Okay!”

A once great man, Franklin D. Roosevelt (A Democrat I might add) said,

So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself—nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory. I am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days.

You’re all a bunch of cowards, you so need “daddy” to protect you from the bully. You all have destroyed this once great nation because your pussies, plan and simple.

Poll Shows Republican’s “Fear 2006″ Campaign Not Working

Writing by on Thursday, 21 of September , 2006 at 9:15 am

A NY Times / CBS News Poll has the Republican lead Congress at an approval of a pathetic 25%. This is great news for the Democrats, if they could just get off their asses and spread a message of truth, something the American people have not seen in years.

The same poll places the “President” at 37%, unchanged from the last time this poll was done. Hear are some great highlights of the poll

  • Bush’s Approval Rating 37%
  • Bush had handled the war in Iraq, to 36 percent from 30 percent, a small uptick.
  • Voters said Democrats were more likely to tell the truth than Republicans when discussing the war in Iraq and about the actual threat of terrorism
  • 59 percent of respondents said Mr. Bush was hiding something when he talked about how things were going in Iraq; an additional 25 percent said he was mostly lying when talking about the war
  • Mr. Bush’s approval ratings on the economy and foreign policy have returned to their levels of about a year ago, both at 37 percent.
  • 77% say that the Current Congress does not deserve re-election, including 65% Republicans.
  • 50% said they want the Democtats in Control, while only 37% said they want the Republicans to keep control.
  • Republican lead on terrorism is shrinking 42% to Democrats 37%

VA: George “KKK” Allen Voted to NOT Give Body Armor to the Troops.

Writing by on Thursday, 14 of September , 2006 at 3:30 pm

Once again the facts are so bad there is no reason to make up any lies. Sen. George Allen, you know the "macaca" calling racist that is running to keep his seat in VA, well he voted NAY on a bill to give our troops proper body armor in Iraq, and the vets are fighting back.

Here are the stills of a great ad run by the VoteVets.org, you can watch the video here

All in all I have never really asked my readers to give money, but this ad rocks, and is SO true, and they are looking for funds to get it on the air.

VA-Sen: Maybe Allen Learned “Macaca” From These Folks.

Writing by on Thursday, 31 of August , 2006 at 2:32 am

It is no secret that the Senator from the State of Virginia, George Allen, is a raciest of the highest order. He called a dark-skinned man, who was born in Virginia, a “Macaca” not to long ago, and then claimed that he made the word up (“Macaca” is a racial slur used in places like Tunisia to describe the “locals”, now you may say, “How would he know that? Well Allen is fluent in French, and his mother is from Tunisia). Well the glossy veneer that the raciest Allen has painted on is starting to chip, and boy are we seeing just how over-the-top raciest this man is.

The Nation has done a little digging, and unearthed a lot of Hate from Allen.

Only a decade ago, as governor of Virginia, Allen personally initiated an association with the Council of Conservative Citizens, the successor organization to the segregationist White Citizens Council and among the largest white supremacist groups.

…After speaking with CCC founder and former White Citizens Council organizer Gordon Lee Baum and two of his cohorts, Allen suggested that they pose for a photograph with then-National Rifle Association spokesman and actor Charlton Heston. The photo appeared in the Summer 1996 issue of the CCC’s newsletter, the Citizens Informer.

According to Baum, Allen had not naively stumbled into a chance meeting with unfamiliar people. He knew exactly who and what the CCC was about and, from Baum’s point of view, was engaged in a straightforward political transaction. "It helped us as much as it helped him," Baum told me. "We got our bona fides." And so did Allen.

Descended from the White Citizens’ Councils…the CCC is designated a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center. In its "Statement of Principles," the CCC declares, "We also oppose all efforts to mix the races of mankind, to promote non-white races over the European-American people through so-called "affirmative action" and similar measures, to destroy or denigrate the European-American heritage, including the heritage of the Southern people, and to force the integration of the races."

Lowell at Raising Kaine dug up some quotes that illustrate what, exactly, the CCC and their good friend Allen are all about.

*"Each of the three major races plays a distinct role in history. . . . The whites were the creators of civilization, the yellows its sustainers and copyists, the blacks its destroyers." (www.cofcc.org, 12/98)

*Abraham Lincoln was "surely the most evil American in history," and Martin Luther King was a "depraved miscreant." (www.cofcc.org, 12/98)

*"The Jews’ motto is ‘never forget, and never forgive.’ One can’t agree with the way they’ve turned spite into welfare billions for themselves, but the ‘never forget’ part is very sound." (Citizens Informer, Winter/97)

*"The presence [in Congress] of even one white person with our interests foremost in his mind is simply unacceptable to the issues-obsessed conservative race traitors. Texas Governor George Bush and his brother Jeb in Florida have manifested their self-hatred by embracing Hispanics ahead of whites. Somehow we must find a way to relieve whites of their self-hatred." ("Open Letter to White People," www.cofcc.org, 12/98)]

A Tip of the hat to the DailyKOS for finding these gems.

I live not to far from the DC area, and I work in Virginia, so I have been forced to watch his ads, and I will tell you this, he is not pointing out how much as a raciest son-of-a-bitch he is in NO.VA. I would also like to note that he started running his ads MONTHS ago, and would not say he is a Republican, odd.

“I Know George Allen Personally”

Writing by on Friday, 18 of August , 2006 at 7:19 pm

This was by LibDemAlways at DU

In fact it goes back over 35 years to his days as a high school student in Palos Verdes Estates, CA.

So, for those of you for whom the George Allen "macaca" incident is an eye-opener into his character, let me provide a little background.

George was born in Whittier, CA in 1952. He grew up mostly in the California suburbs, except for a stint in the Chicago area when his father was head coach of the Chicago Bears. George entered Palos Verdes HS, in a wealthy community not far from LAX, in September of 1966. His father was head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, and the Allen family lived in a beautiful custom home modeled on a French chateau on an aptly named street called Via Panorama with a spectacular city/ocean view.

Because of his father’s celebrity, everyone knew who George Allen was at Palos Verdes High. He kept a low profile the first couple of years, but as a senior began to hang out with a kid from Texas named Deke. Also as a senior he began to drive a Ford wagon to school with a Confederate flag license rim and other Confederate flag stickers. He and Deke posed for their senior portraits wearing Confederate flag pins on their lapels.

Palos Verdes is a conservative, republican area and back then the school was 99.9% caucasion. Everyone knew about Allen’s apparent love of the Confederacy but just considered it an eccentricity. He became varsity QB senior year and dated one of the cheerleaders.

Palos Verdes HS had an exceptional basketball team that year, and made it into the league playoffs where a game against Morningside High was scheduled. Morningside was in a working class, predominently black area. Kids from Morningside lived a world away from the privileged PV students, and the PV kids tended to look down on those not from "the hill" as it was called locally.

The week of the game racist graffiti was spraypainted on the walls of Palos Verdes HS. It was anti-white (along the lines of "Die Whitey" "Fuck Whitey") intended to look like the work of Morningside students. Because the Morningside team name "Monarchs" was misspelled, and because of Allen’s well-known bigotry, he was fingered almost immediately. He was forced to publically apologize over the school PA and was suspended for a time.

Allen went on to UCLA in the Fall of 70, and in 71 moved to Virginia when his dad became Redskins Coach.

Ryan Lizza of The New Republic wrote a well-researched, exhaustive article chronicling Allen’s lifelong love of the Confederacy published last April called "Pin Prick." Well worth reading. Lizza interviwed classmates (though not me) who corroborated the graffiti story, as did a former school administrator. Lizza confronted Allen with the yearbook photo and the graffiti incident. He admitted the graffiti, but denied it was racist. He also admitted he was wearing a Confederate flag pin, but couldn’t remember why. Said it might have something to do with "youthful rebellion." He said he couldn’t remember the Confederate flag stickers on his car, but hedged his bets by saying they might have been there.

As an adult Allen went on to display a noose in his law office, and a Confederate flag on the living room of a cabin he owned. He proclaimed Confederate Heritage Month as Virginia Governor and opposed legislation honoring MLK. All of this is well documented in print.

"Macaca" is a telling slip-up by a guy who, until now, has kept up a veneer of respectibility in his political life. But it’s part of a pattern - one going back decades - one that Jim Webb has a unique opportunity to explore and reveal.

Allen is a guy who enjoys slipping his racism under the radar. He named his only son Forrest. Gen. Nathan Forrest was a slave owning Confederate General responsible for atrocities against black union troops, and not coincidentally, an early Grand Wizard of the KKK. I have no doubt this wasn’t a happy accident. This is the real George Allen, the one who had no problem insulting a young man of Indian descent in public, the one who scrawled "Die Whitey" on a school wall to incite racial tension, the one who has no business being a US Senator.

Republicans Loosing the Coveted “Security Moms”

Writing by on Friday, 18 of August , 2006 at 10:17 am

Well I guess that you can only say “We are fighting terrorist” but not really do anything about it is starting to cost the Republicans the coveted “Security Moms” group. This shows just how simple the failures of the Republicans one party rule.

Washington Post

Married women with children, the "security moms" whose concerns about terrorism made them an essential part of Republican victories in 2002 and 2004, are taking flight from GOP politicians this year in ways that appear likely to provide a major boost for Democrats in the midterm elections, according to polls and interviews.

.

This critical group of swing voters — who are an especially significant factor in many of the most competitive suburban districts on which control of Congress will hinge — is more inclined to vote Democratic than at any point since Sept. 11, 2001, according to data compiled for The Washington Post by the Pew Research Center.

Married mothers said in interviews here that they remain concerned about national security and the ability of Democrats to keep them safe from terrorist strikes. But surveys indicate Republicans are not benefiting from this phenomenon as they have before.

Disaffection with President Bush, the Iraq war, and other concerns such as rising gasoline prices and economic anxiety are proving more powerful in shaping voter attitudes.

Republican Racism Alive and Well in Virginia - Racial Slurs From Allen’s Mouth

Writing by on Tuesday, 15 of August , 2006 at 8:23 am

It is now standard procedure now for a politician to send a staffer to the rallies of the opponent and video tape it. Well in the Old Dominion (That is Virginia for the rest of you) the current Republican Senator, George Allen has sent the message to the almost all white audience, “I am your Senator and I will maintain the racist past we in Virginia are known for”

He pointed out during a rally the staffer from the Webb campaign, a gentleman is of Indian decent, and said the following;
"Lets give a welcome to Macaque, here. Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia," said Allen, who then began talking about the "war on terror."

Now what is odd is, unlike George Allen, who was born in the liberal state of California, this Webb staffer, S.R. Sidarth, a senior at the University of Virginia, was born in Virginia, Fairfax VA to be exact.
.
You may also ask, what the hell does Macaque mean? Well you have to be a real dye in the wool racist to know this one… Macaque is a French term that means a Negro (originally) or a person of North-African origin (more recently); derived from macaque monkeys. This was not a slip of the tongue, this is a message to his fellow White Republican racist that he is a racist on a global scale, he knows how to point out a racial slurs in 22 different languages.

UPDATE

Bidabunch points out over on DailyKOS that George Allen claims that he had no clue what Macaque (macaca) means to the Washington Post, he points to a brown person (they are all the same to these Republicans) and used a French racial slur, and wants you to think he has no clue what it means… but… as Bidabunch points out

He’s lying. And anyone who speaks French knows what a Macaque is. "Macaque" is French for monkey. And George Allen speaks French.

Here is a quote from the president of the University of Virginia, Patricia Cormier at UVA’s commencement exercises in Spring 2005 introducing Senator George Allen:

"A little known fact about Senator Allen is that his undergraduate education was enhanced substantially by his excellent performance in French class, taught by none other than Dr. Raymond Cormier, visiting professor of French at Longwood, and my husband! I have up here on the podium the gradebook, and he got a very good grade. No wonder the senator can applaud his superior education."

http://longwood.edu/…

(Google is your friend!)

So now we know he was lying when he said he didn’t know what it means. Was it a racial slur?

Republican Will Not Say They are Republicans on Their Sites

Writing by on Thursday, 10 of August , 2006 at 1:22 pm

You know the Republicans are in trouble when they will not even use tell you that they are. Jim Talent, the incumbent from the very red state of Missouri has scrubbed the description from his website. Don’t be fooled, he is a uber-Republican, but wow, that is how scared they are. Also the Chair of the NRCC has scrubbed the R word from his site.

Waveflux.net has the rest…

I was reading the latest dispatch from Kommander Kos, a post making merry with the efforts made by Republican Congressman Tom Reynolds of New York to conceal his own party affiliation. Why, according to Markos, you can’t find Reynolds actually calling himself a Republican anywhere on his official website. Once I got a good chuckle out of that, I wondered if I knew of a similarly diffident GOP candidate closer to home, an incumbent so uncomfortable with being called a Republican that he’d avoid labeling himself as such on his own website.

It turns out that there is such a shy Republican close to home. You know him as Jim Talent.

Don’t bother trying to find Talent describing himself as a Republican on those pages; he stays well away from owning up to it. You will find this claim…

Missourians elected Senator Talent to the Senate in November 2002 where he has worked with Republicans and Democrats to pass critical legislation for Missouri.

…but this makes it sound as though Talent is a member of some obscure third party, neither Republican nor Democrat. Joe Lieberman’s new party, maybe. Who knows?

And He Wonders Why He Lost…

Writing by on Wednesday, 9 of August , 2006 at 10:03 pm

Well now it is clear why Joe lost, just now, the day after he lost the Democratic primary, abandoned the Democratic Party and has been endorsed by the likes of Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity he was asked by Larry King (Larry Zigger) if he would vote to go to war in Iraq again. His answer, ‘Oh yah, I should would’ (I will get exact quote as soon as it is posted)…

He knows they had no WMD’s, he knows that Bush has lied his ass off, he knows that we can not win, but he would still vote to go to war with people that have done nothing to us…

See ya Joe…

Karl Rove Reaches Out To Help Joe!

Writing by on Wednesday, 9 of August , 2006 at 3:37 pm

Kid you not, Karl Rove the not-so-mastermind of the Bush political machine has offered to help Joe win his election. If you ever had doubts that Joe was really a Republican then read this…

From the ABC News Blog

According to a close Lieberman adviser, the President’s political guru, Karl Rove, has reached out to the Lieberman camp with a message straight from the Oval Office: "The boss wants to help. Whatever we can do, we will do."

But in a year where even some Republican candidates are running away from the President on the campaign trail, does this offer have any value to Lieberman? Still smarting from all that coverage of "the kiss" at last year’s State of the Union, the Lieberman camp isn’t looking for an explicit endorsement. That could create more problems than it solves.

It’s Official, Joe Is NO LONGER a Democrat. If he ever was.

Writing by on Wednesday, 9 of August , 2006 at 9:50 am

Well this morning Joe Lieberman filed a giant “Screw You” to the Democratic Party and the people of Connecticut. They spoke, and Joe did not listen, nothing has changed.

Well he has filed as an independent today, working to make sure that the splits the Democratic vote, and really helps the Republican party, again, nothing changed.

"I feel we began to get our message across strongly and we’re going to keep on going," Lieberman told The Associated Press on Wednesday. "This race is going to be all about who can get more done and who can be a better representative of Connecticut." Joe, you are wrong, you have been a horrid representative for the state of Connecticut, your fair state is second to last in the amount of money that is returned to the state. Only the state of New Jersey gets more screwed out of it’s tax money more. Joe be careful running on your record, it is very PRO-JOE, and a little weak on pro-Connecticut. All and all, you have failed the people of Connecticut.

I hope the party hands you your ass, you are a cry baby, it is all about you, and you do not care about the Democrats, the people of Connecticut, and you have pissed on the process that has made this America great. I hope they strip you of your power and relegate you to the slums of the Senate until you are unseated in November.

Lieberman Will Flee the Democrats, True Colors Comes Out.

Writing by on Wednesday, 9 of August , 2006 at 7:49 am

Joe Liberman shows his true colors and once again, it is all about Joe. Joe said, “For the sake of our state, our country and my party, I cannot and will not let that result stand”. He is saying for the most part “it is all about me, and I could care less if the Democrats of Connecticut want. Like most of my political career I am in it for me, not Connecticut.” If you want to really get a feel for what I mean, look at his real quote, “For the sake of our state, our country and my party, I cannot and will not let that result stand”, so what party is he talking about? Is he talking about the Democratic Party, that just rejected him, or does he really mean his very own private party. (By the way, where the hell was this resolve to win when Bush stole 2000? Joe said to Al, "Don’t fight it Al, I still have my Senate seat". Again, it is all about Joe")

All in all this proves a point that Ned Lamont has made over and over, Joe is not a Democrat, if he were he would respect the voters of Connecticut and fade into the history books. Joe, you lost, and if you really care about anyone other than your damn self, them you will go away, the voters have spoken.
